About Hanakapi`ai Beach

# Hanakapi`ai Beach

Hanakapi`ai Beach is one of the most stunning spots on the Na Pali Coast, but it's definitely a "look, don't touch" kind of place when it comes to the ocean.

You'll reach this secluded beach after a solid 2-mile hike in from Ke'e Beach, and the journey itself is part of the experience. That sand (which only appears in summer months) and those clear waters look impressive, but here's what you need to know: **do not swim here**. The currents are dangerous year-round, there's a strong shore break, and multiple rip tides make this one of Kauai's most hazardous beaches. There are no lifeguards out here, and the remote location means help isn't coming quickly.

This spot works well for experienced hikers looking for a full Na Pali Coast experience—plan to rest, refuel, and take in the views from the sand. You can dip your toes in the river mouth, but watch out for flash flooding, especially after rain. The Hanakapi`ai River can become impassable and has stranded people before.

**Before you go:** Check with the lifeguards at Ke'e Beach before you start your hike about current ocean conditions, and bring extra water for the trek.

The scenery is worth the hike—just respect the ocean's power here and save your swimming for Ke'e Beach instead.
