Kalepa Ridge Trail
A 3-mile ridge walk starting from Kalalau Lookout with unbeatable Na Pali Coast views. This moderate-to-challenging trail isn't for beginners—you'll encounter exposed sections, drop-offs, and potentially windy conditions. Hike early morning when it's calmer. The dramatic Kalalau Valley vistas make every careful step worth it.
Check trail conditions before you go
Kauaʻi trails can flood, wash out, or close without notice. Flash floods, slippery rock, sheer drop-offs, and sudden weather changes are real risks — people get hurt or die here every year. Cell service is spotty to non-existent on most trails. Tell someone your plan, carry water, turn back if conditions look off.

About Kalepa Ridge Trail
Aloha. The Kalepa Ridge Trail is one of the west side's most rewarding hikes—a 3-mile out-and-back adventure starting at Kalalau Lookout in Koke'e State Park that delivers some of the most striking views of the Na Pali Coast available on Kauai.
This is a moderate to challenging hike that's not suited for beginners. The trail follows an exposed ridgeline with serious drop-offs and becomes hazardous when windy or wet. The terrain is crumbly in spots, so you'll want good hiking boots with solid grip.
Start early morning for the best visibility and calmer winds. The Kalalau Valley views are most compelling when the light is soft. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and layers since it can get cool and windy up there. A hat is essential.
You can park at the Kalalau Lookout—no permits needed, but the lot fills up fast during peak season. Check the weather before heading out. If conditions are windy or rainy, it's worth postponing. The trail demands respect, but when conditions align, the views of the ridges and valleys are worth the effort.
