Manawaiopuna Falls
The famous "Jurassic Falls" from the movie—a 400-foot waterfall that cascades down emerald cliffs in remote Hanapepe Valley. Access requires helicopter, making it one of Kauai's most exclusive and breathtaking adventures. Island Helicopters offers aerial tours of the site.
Check trail conditions before you go
Kauaʻi waterfall trails can flood, wash out, or close without notice. Flash floods, slippery rock, sheer drop-offs, and sudden weather changes are real risks — people get hurt or die here every year. Cell service is spotty to non-existent on most trails. Tell someone your plan, carry water, turn back if conditions look off. Never swim in a waterfall pool if it's raining anywhere upstream — flash floods arrive without warning.

About Manawaiopuna Falls
Manawaiopuna Falls is one of Kauaʻi's most spectacular waterfalls. This 400-foot cascade plunging down the emerald cliffs of Hanapepe Valley is recognizable from Jurassic Park – locals call it "Jurassic Falls."
This waterfall is exclusively accessible by helicopter, which makes it both special and pricey. Island Helicopters is your only option for landing tours, so book well in advance, especially during peak season from December through April. The best time for photos is mid-morning when the light hits the falls perfectly and the mist creates rainbows.
Since you'll be on a helicopter tour, wear dark clothing to minimize reflections in the aircraft windows, and bring a polarizing filter for your camera if you have one. The contrast between the white water and lush green valley walls is striking, so shoot in different directions to capture it fully.
Safety-wise, listen to your pilot's instructions and stay within designated areas during any ground time. The terrain around the falls can be slippery and unstable. This aerial vantage point offers perspective on Kauaʻi's landscape that you won't find elsewhere, and it's worth the investment for that experience.
