About Kilohana Plantation

Aloha! Kilohana Plantation stands as one of Kauai's most compelling historical sites, telling the story of Hawaii's sugar plantation era dating back to 1896 when Albert Spencer Wilcox established this working cattle ranch and sugar estate. The crown jewel is the magnificent 1930s Tudor-style mansion built by his nephew, Gaylord Wilcox, who managed the famous Grove Farm Plantation.

Today, this 105-acre estate preserves island history while offering modern attractions. The highlight is the Kauai Plantation Railway—a 40-minute train ride through tropical landscapes that gives you a real feel for plantation life. The restored mansion houses unique shops and galleries where you can find authentic local crafts and souvenirs.

You'll find dining at The Plantation House restaurant, located in the original courtyard. Chef Johnny Saguid creates island-influenced cuisine that captures Kauai's flavors. They also offer rum tastings featuring locally distilled spirits.

The best time to visit is mid-morning when it's cooler for the train ride. Parking is plentiful and free, and the grounds are easily accessible for all visitors. Plan a visit that includes lunch—you'll step back into a significant moment in island history while enjoying modern hospitality at this 105-acre estate.
